Unity of Tone

 

 

 

 

This mosaic floor unearthed in the Ancient Roman city of Pompeii uses off white and pale grey mosaic tiles and areas of tonally similar marble to create a detailed, but understated floor. The tonal unity harmonises the numerous shapes and patterns that make up the floor.
