Unity of Direction
The powerful field of repeating verticals, visible in Bryce Canyon in South Western Utah, unifies the vast landscape. The Canyon has been etched out by the actions of rain and frost to form an enormous forest of vertical turrets.
The varying composition of the sedimentary plateau the turrets are carved from, cause a horizontal banding to run through the entire region. The vertical thrust of the turrets and the horizontal striped banding create a unity on a grand scale.
