For over 30 years my wife, Dianne, and I have been traveling to various deserts throughout Australia. This exhibition started as a collection of small sketches produced in the Strezlecki, Simpson and Sturts Stony Deserts.
These sketches were the basis for many of the larger works that make up the rest of the collection. Sketches from the Great Victoria and Gibson deserts, and larger works based on them, form the rest of the exhibition.

The breathtaking landscapes and wonderful tales of ingenuity and survival from the scattered inhabitants inspire many of these paintings. The exhibition includes 30 small watercolour and gouache studies done on location, a number of larger preliminary studies and larger studio works ranging in size up to 900 x 1600.
Although many of the works feature recognisable subjects - desert landscapes, outstations, salt lakes etc. the real subject is the feeling of isolation and solitude generated by the treatment of the objects portrayed.
