VENICE AND LAKE COMO, ITALY

24 SEPTEMBER - 6 OCTOBER 2012

13 days of painting and exploration in two wonderful cities, Venice and Como. Como, with its beautiful setting on the shores of Lake Como and Venice, with grand palaces and ancient crumbling villas built directly over the canals will be a delight to paint.

ITINERY

DAY 1 MONDAY SEPTEMBER 24, 2012 VENICE 
Workshop members will be met at 2.00pm and transferred from Venice airport to your comfortable three-star hotel superbly located close to the Grand Canal and a wealth of great painting sites. There will be time to freshen up before the group meets for welcome drinks. Tonight we will have an included dinner.

Day 2 TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 25, 2012 VENICE
This morning a local guide will take you on a walking tour of the sights of Venice. We will see St Mark's Cathedral and its square, the Grand Canal, the Doges Palace and the busy waterfront. Following the tour, John Lovett will begin painting with a demonstration, and then move amongst the group helping with individual paintings.

Day 3 WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 26, 2012 VENICE
John will lead the group to a good painting location and then assist workshop members with their individual work. Relaxed critique sessions will be held at the workshop hotel every few days. Non painters may like to take a day trip to Murano and see how the beautiful Murano glass is made. This evening you may like to attend one of the many Vivaldi music concerts available.

Day 4 THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 27, 2012 VENICE
After breakfast we will take you by boat to the colorful island of Burano for a day of painting and sightseeing. Featuring an extensive network of canals and ancient buildings painted in vivid reds and greens, Burano will surely offer inspiration for today's workshop. The group will spend the day exploring the island and will return to the hotel in the afternoon.

Day 5 FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 28, 2012 VENICE
John will lead the group to a good painting location and then assist workshop members with their individual work. Tonight you may like to walk to St Marks Square and enjoy the music played by the orchestras at the various cafes.

Day 6 SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 29, 2012 VENICE
John will begin your final day in Venice with a demonstration and then help workshop members with their work throughout the day. This evening there will be an included dinner to celebrate our time in Venice.

DAY 7 SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 30, 2012 LAKE COMO
Today workshop members will travel by private coach to the beautiful city of Como and stay in a four star hotel over looking the lake. Como is a city of history, art, culture and tradition and welcomes those in search of unusual and enchanting landscapes. Como was prosperous under the Romans and reached its zenith in the 11th century. Now it is a modern town with a beautiful setting on the shores of Lake Como. Tonight we will have an included dinner

DAY 8 MONDAY OCTOBER 1, 2012 LAKE COMO 
After breakfast John Lovett will begin the painting program in Como with a demonstration in a good location near the hotel. Then it will be your turn to paint as John moves among the group, helping each person with their work.

DAY 9 TUESDAY OCTOBER 2, 2012 LAKE COMO 
Today we travel to the lovely town of Bellagio for a day of painting. Occupying a magnificent site on the promontory dividing Lake Lecco from Lake Como, it is known for its pretty streets, the friendliness of its people and its villas and gardens. In the afternoon we take the ferry across the lake to the village of Tremezzo to visit Villa Carlotta, known for its beautiful setting and spectacular gardens. It was built in 1745 and later given as a wedding present to Carlotta, Duchess of Saxe-Meiningen.

DAY 10 WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 3, 2012 LAKE COMO
A full day of painting, sightseeing and relaxation in Como with John Lovett.

DAY 11 THURSDAY OCTOBER 4, 2012 LAKE COMO 
Today we will depart in our private coach to Menaggio, which is situated on the western shore of Lake Como, for a day of painting. The splendid lakeside promenade with its lovely flowerbeds and unique view of the central lake will offer many subjects to paint. John will paint a demonstration and then spend time moving amongst the group members offering individual assistance. There will be time to catch the ferry to Varenna, a spectacular town built upon a rock at the foot of a mountain which rises almost vertically above it.

DAY 12 FRIDAY OCTOBER 5, 2012 LAKE COMO 
Our last full day of painting in beautiful Lake Como. John will lead the group for a final day of painting on the lake. He will demonstrate and then move from person to person offering helpful advice. A final critique session will be held before an included drink's party and farewell dinner to celebrate the success of the workshop.

DAY 13 SATURDAY OCTOBER 6, 2012 DEPARTURE 
Time to say farewell. After breakfast, you will be transferred to Milan airport for afternoon return flights. Workshop concludes.
