Ó John Lovett 2003

Hi, Welcome to this final news letter for 2003. This last quarter of the year is always a busy time for me. Everything seems to center around my annual major exhibition in mid November at McGrath's Art Gallery, Sydney. Most of the paintings are all but finished now, but I like to have a month up my sleeve to look over everything and make final adjustments.

A trip into the Simpson Desert in the center of Australia this August was incredibly inspiring if somewhat frustrating. The theme for the exhibition I am currently working on is "By the Water" and as much as I would like to get started on a series of desert paintings, trying to weave them into this exhibition is a little difficult, given that the water we carried in drums was the only water  we saw for two weeks!  ...Well, maybe I can sneak just a couple of desert paintings in.

Happy Painting,
John

CLIFTON WORKSHOP

Clifton was a busy 3 day workshop concentrating on watercolor and mixed media. The venue was a beautiful old timber hall with plenty of room and great light.

Clifton Hall

Adrianne's historic old renovated convent provided excellent accommodation and evening meals were, as always, great fun at the different local pubs.

Clifton - sketching in the paddock

Most of our time was spent painting in the old hall, but we managed to sketch for a morning in a paddock behind the local school yard. There were big empty backyards and run down fences leading up to interesting old sheds and houses. Great subjects to experiment with mixed media - All sorts of complex arrangements of interesting shapes and tones.
