INK

There are plenty of good artist quality inks on the market. I prefer art spectrum burnt sienna and a plain old post office nib. Ink dries quickly so you need to work fast. I like to put down a few lines then, before they dry lightly spray them with a fine mist of water to soften and feather them.

For black you can't beat the solid Chinese ink ground with water on a grindstone. The intensity can be controlled by the amount of water added. The Chinese ink bleeds and feathers beautifully when sprayed with a fine mist of water.

Be aware that once ink dries on you painting, it is there for good. It is a good idea to have a roll of paper towel handy to quickly mop up any accidents!
